• How do Car Safety Features Really Help Increase Safety

With the evolution of the modern automotive industry new car safety features have continually been added to new vehicles. During the automobile revolution safety features were something that was not as high on the priority lists of automotive companies as it is today. However,  after the 1960’s, safety features were taken up with a keen interest. During this period the seat belt was invented, and it marked the beginning of introduction of safety features.

    Safety Features

    • Seatbelts – help to hold passengers in position during an accident.
    • Seat belt reminder – when people forget to wear the seat belts, a warning light in the instrument panel glows till the seat belts are buckled and in place.
    • Airbags – help in keeping the occupants of the car in their position of safety and stop them from hitting the metallic body of the car with force.
    • Crumple zones – in case of a collision these zones get crushed and bear the crash impact rather than passing it on to the passengers of the car.
    • Traction control – the brakes of the car are used to effectively control the car from skidding.
    • Auto beam adjust – controls the focus of light from a car from the opposite side, so that the light doesn’t directly hit your eyes.
    • Stability control – helps the car to maintain its upright position by not allowing it to roll over.
    • Brake assist – recognizes when the brakes are applied hurriedly and multiplies the braking force; the stopping distance is reduced.
    • Fuel cutoff – fuel supply gets cut off in case of a collision avoiding the fire hazard.
    • Tire pressure monitoring – (mandatory in US) gives a signal on the instrument in case of low tyre pressure or flat tire.
    • Night vision – helps the driver to see much further than a naked eye can. Animals, people, stones and trees on the road can be viewed from far and collisions are avoided.
    • Rearview cameras – not only helps you to park your car better but helps you save children or animals being crushed when backing your car.
    • GPS – global positioning system helps the satellite to track the location of the car and if the car is stranded in a remote place and helps the rescue teams to locate the vehicle in case of distress.

Accidental mortality has been gradually reduced over the years because of the implementation of these safety features. These modern safety features help the passengers to reach their destination safely and on time. Crash testing of vehicles has resulted in the evolution of a strong automotive body. Automotive manufacturers are enhancing safety features as each year passes by.
