If you’re in the market for a roadster styled electric car, there are only a few makers out there who produce them. One such company is the cutting edge Tesla Motors, with their Roadster and Roadster Sport. A new possibility for an electric roadster, is the new Audi eTron which may come out into the marketplace in a couple of years. It’s at a concept level now, as Audi engineers and designers work out the details for a production vehicle for the mass market. Until then, consumers looking to purchase this style of electric vehicle can find one through Tesla Motors based in California.
Tesla began manufacturing the Roadster and the Roadster Sport in 2008 for delivery to consumers in 2009. Its Lotus-look (in fact it shares many of its parts with the Lotus Elise) and impressive performance has made this model a much sought after car, both by advocates of electric vehicles and sports car enthusiasts. It also has a similar look to the Smart car roadster offered in 2005, but with an all electric motor. Tesla successfully kills any prior notion of electric cars lacking the gusto of traditional combustion engines, as the Roadster Sport offers a stunning 288 horsepower and travels from 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds. Cars can be ordered for purchase or lease through Tesla Motors authorized dealers listed on the company’s website. Another source of finding a used Roadster is on eBay Motors. Tesla isn’t one of the makes offered in the pull-down menu criteria, so enter “Tesla” in the search field. If there are any for sale on eBay, it will show under the Cars & Trucks heading on the left hand side.
