Since all odometers built are sealed units, it is impossible to obtain a “digital odometer correction”. Instead, what has to happen is that your car’s mileage starts from today with a “true mileage unknown” statement or title. Once this is written and notarized, an inspection of the vehicle is held by the DMV, and a corrected title is issued replacing the TMU title. This title may be called a salvage title. If you are thinking of selling a TMU automobile to anyone but a wholesaler, be sure you have all the paperwork in order and then ensure that the new buyer signs an affidavit of approval that he or she knows the vehicle is TMU.
