• The Best Luxury SUV Based on Reliability, MPG, and Price

If you are shopping for the best luxury SUV for your budget and lifestyle, you probably have your own criteria for making a purchase decision. Perhaps, you are looking for the SUV with the most accessories or options, or perhaps the one with best safety ratings. These are important features to consider when buying an SUV. However, you should also consider affordability and fuel economy.

A Luxury Mid-Size SUV that Does not Hurt Your Wallet

Luxury SUVs are expensive, and some can cost more than $100,000. They come with the latest and greatest features and options, usually have powerful engines, and most come with all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. In addition, a high end SUV rides likes a luxury sedan and is quiet and comfortable.

However, there are other luxury SUVs that cost far less, have almost as many high end options and usually get much better gas mileage. For example, if you are looking for an excellent mid-size SUV that comes with plenty of options, gets good gas mileage and will not break the bank, then you might consider the Lexus RX 350. It is considered by many reviewers to be the best luxury mid-size SUV on the market and comes with a ton of premium options included. The RX 350 gets up to 25 MPG on the highway and has a relatively low luxury SUV price tag of only $35,316 for a full loaded model.

The Lexus RX 350 is not designed for off road use and, therefore, may not be for everyone. However, if you consider the fact that the RX 350 has many of the same equipment and options as some luxury mid-size SUVs that cost up to $60,000 or $70,000 more, comes from a manufacturer that has a great reputation for quality and offers good fuel economy, then it is hard to argue with the value this vehicle provides.

Best Value in a Big SUV

When you think about the best big SUVs, names like Land Rover, Range Rover, Chevy Suburban or Ford Expedition may come to mind. After all, these are the companies we usually associate with mammoth, carry-all SUVs. While these large SUVs are certainly fine automobiles, it may surprise you which vehicle is consistently being rated the best value in a large SUV.

Mazda’s CX9 is smaller than most American or European made large SUVs. Nevertheless, the vehicle can still seat seven (driver and six passengers) comfortably, and seating and cargo capacity should be enough for most families. Higher trim levels of the Mazda CX9 come with premium options such as a full featured navigation system, leather seats and a rearview camera system. The CX9 is powered by a strong, but economical, 6-cylinder engine and gets 22 miles per gallon on the highway.

While the CX9 comes with plenty of options and gets better fuel economy than most other larger SUVs, the most impressive thing about this vehicle is the price. Only $32,000 for a fully loaded model. That’s about $20,000 less than other mainstream luxury SUVs that usually offer nothing more than seating for 2 additional passengers, and perhaps a slightly better sound system.
