2017 Dodge Challenger
“Unlike the original Challenger, which had a shapely "fuselage" body that wrapped under at the rocker panels, the new car is slightly more slab-sided. But that's a good thing because it makes this muscular car, with its 20-in. wheels and tires, look as if it is firmly planted to the tarmac. ” — Road & Track   See More Reviews
2017 BMW M240
2017 Nissan 370Z
“The 370Z is also notable for more than just its dynamic talents. Surprisingly, the interior is luxurious and the ride is comfortable, so long road trips are possible.” —   See More Reviews
2017 Audi TT
“The [Audi TT's] brakes did not fade in the face of aggressive driving and maintained a consistent feel. ” — New Car Test Drive   See More Reviews
2017 Audi A5
“The engines, both of them nice pieces that rarely inspire complaint, are nevertheless different in character. The smaller engine somehow makes the car seem smaller than did the V-8, less like a muscle car and more, well, German.” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews
2017 Audi RS 3
2017 BMW M2
“The M2's turbocharged 3.0-liter has eyeball-flattening thrust from about 2000 rpm to the 7000-rpm redline.” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews
2017 Chevrolet Corvette
“The Corvette accelerates like a rocket (duh), has razor-sharp steering, zero body roll, and looks damned fine. That's not the best part about it, though. I'd argue the best part is how easy it is to milk all the performance. ” — AutoWeek   See More Reviews
2017 Alfa Romeo 4C
“...a carbon-fiber structure, composite body panels, a high-pressure-turbocharged four-banger and a dual-clutch automated manual transmission” —   See More Reviews
2017 Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class
2017 Cadillac ATS-V
“...we've lauded [the regular ATS's] capable handling. The ATS-V has made it even more exceptional.” —   See More Reviews
2017 BMW 3-Series
“This power is fed through a standard-fit six-speed manual gearbox with an auto throttle-blipping function, though you can spec the seven-speed double clutch (DCT) transmission featuring something BMW officially calls (and we're really, really not making this up)... the Smokey Burnout function. Yes folks, the new M3 and M4 are hooligans.” — TopGear   See More Reviews
2017 Lexus RC F
“Powerful and refined V8” —   See More Reviews
2017 BMW 4-Series
“While the weighting changes, the numbness never does, but the steering is so immediate and so precise that it feels unfair to complain about a lack of feel. There are few better steering racks overall on the market. ” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews
2017 Jaguar F-TYPE
“ when it comes to satisfying the emotional side of driving...Jaguar F-Type is one of the best sports cars available today.” —   See More Reviews

“The menacing supercar details meet up with a cockpit that's the nicest ever installed in a Viper, with touchscreen interfaces and fragrant Ferrari-esque leather seats--finally, it's joined the 21st century in accommodations.” — The Car Connection   See More Reviews
2017 Audi A7
“Such luxuries have their appeal, but what makes the RS7 truly desirable is that it is one of the greatest performance sedans (well, hatchbacks) of all time...” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews
2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT
“In fact, you have handling that's capable of rivaling the current 991 Porsche 911. And with the AMG GT's hydraulic steering, the feel and finesse gets a nod in the Mercedes' favor.” — The Car Connection   See More Reviews
2017 BMW M6
“Unlike regular 6ers, the M6 is equipped with hydraulic assist for the power steering.” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews

2017 BMW M6 Gran Coupe
“Jet up a freeway on-ramp and slide into fast-moving traffic, though, and the M6 suddenly begins to get into its element. It'll do 70 without batting an eye, but one suspects it is happiest closer to 140.” — AutoWeek   See More Reviews
2017 Acura NSX
“The system uses the electric motors with their instant, brilliant torque, to fill in the powerband while the turbos wake up. There's no lag. None.” — Road & Track   See More Reviews
2017 BMW M760
“Answering a question nearly everyone has asked, the BMW M760i is, at long last, the application of M Division wizardry to Bayerische Motoren Werke's largest sedan platform. ” — Automobile   See More Reviews
2017 Audi R8
“This, in essence, is what makes the new R8 truly great. Audi's given us more and better everything and taken virtually nothing in return. It's hard to ask for more than that.” — Motor Trend   See More Reviews
2017 Nissan GT-R
“Just a quick look at the GT-R's spec sheet is enough to qualify it as a supercar.” — The Car Connection   See More Reviews

2017 Porsche 911
“Gone are the previous naturally aspirated 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter 911 powerplants. The engines in both new Carreras displace 3.0 liters and feature two fixed-vane turbos; the S enjoys slighter larger compressors and a whiff more boost. ” — Automobile   See More Reviews

How are models ranked? editors have compiled the most extensive rating database on the internet, drawing upon $20 million of automotive research from CarsDirect and Autodata, and summarizing expert opinion from an extensive group of the leading third party sources. Here is a brief overview of how we do it:

Professional Reviews Ranking: editors analyze car reviews from a range of magazines and websites, distill each down to a quantifiable ranking and then average those rankings to arrive at the Professional Review Rank.

Other Rankings: also ranks vehicles based on criteria such as fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and comfort and convenience features. You can see some of the data that we have used to rate each vehicle in any given category by expanding the category header on the vehicle detail page. For example, click on the arrow next to "Passenger Space" on the Honda Civic detail page to see the actual measurements for that vehicle's interior. These measurements were stacked up against the interior measurements of all the other vehicles in the compact car segment in order to calculate the Honda Civic's rating in the Passenger Space category. That rating is then used to determine the Honda Civic's overall ranking in the compact car category.
