2011 Land Rover LR4
“Underway, it's very comfortable and very quiet, considering that the LR4 is quite a big box that catches lots of air and rides on enormous tires. ” — New Car Test Drive   See More Reviews
2011 Mercedes-Benz R350
“Steering feels just right for this new class of car, and it requires moderate effort with utterly satisfying response.” —   See More Reviews
2011 Mercedes-Benz R350 BlueTEC
2011 Lincoln MKT
“Other than the goofy proportions and polarizing snout, perhaps the most immediately noteworthy thing about the MKT is how pleasant it is inside its cabin. The interior is serenely quiet, even at triple-digit speeds, thanks to heaps of sound deadening; laminated, thicker windows; and aerodynamic tuning that included optimizing the shape of the side mirrors.” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews
2011 Acura MDX
“Excellent handling, high safety scores, loads of optional high-tech toys, powerful engine with decent fuel economy, relatively large third-row seat for a midsize luxury SUV.” —   See More Reviews

2011 BMW ActiveHybrid X6
“It might not be the most efficient package on which to base a hybrid, but the X6 is one of the sportiest platforms yet to gain the ability. ” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews

2011 Land Rover Range Rover Sport
“Immediately after a heavy downpour that created some very slick and slimy conditions on a horse farm outside Chicago, all that was required of our British ute was to throw the transmission lever into "Low," twist the Terrain Response dial (located on the console between the front seats) one click to the right (Grass/Gravel/Snow), and we were on our way. A little throttle modulation and steering input were all the driver had to worry about. Simple.” — Road & Track   See More Reviews

2011 Lexus RX 450h
“The hybrid model is particularly well sorted out, and both RXs are easier to use as mind-numbing, commute-erasing devices than they were before. Even as enthusiasts, we have to admit there are plenty of days when such a device (especially for this Los Angeles-based editor) would come in handy.” — Car and Driver   See More Reviews

2011 Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC
“The Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is large and capable off road yet feels surprisingly car-like on the road. That car-like feeling comes in part because this is the first full-size SUV built around a unibody architecture instead of traditional body-on-frame construction.” — New Car Test Drive   See More Reviews

2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK350

2011 Volvo XC60
“As Arrival Vehicles go, this one gives the fashionistas something to look at: a high-waisted shape that flares dramatically as it sweeps back to huge sculptural taillights. How are models ranked? editors have compiled the most extensive rating database on the internet, drawing upon $20 million of automotive research from CarsDirect and Autodata, and summarizing expert opinion from an extensive group of the leading third party sources. Here is a brief overview of how we do it:

Professional Reviews Ranking: editors analyze car reviews from a range of magazines and websites, distill each down to a quantifiable ranking and then average those rankings to arrive at the Professional Review Rank.

Other Rankings: also ranks vehicles based on criteria such as fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and comfort and convenience features. You can see some of the data that we have used to rate each vehicle in any given category by expanding the category header on the vehicle detail page. For example, click on the arrow next to "Passenger Space" on the Honda Civic detail page to see the actual measurements for that vehicle's interior. These measurements were stacked up against the interior measurements of all the other vehicles in the compact car segment in order to calculate the Honda Civic's rating in the Passenger Space category. That rating is then used to determine the Honda Civic's overall ranking in the compact car category.
