Car window regulators are different than power window motors, but they do work together to move the window up and down. While the power window motor provides the power that moves the window up and down, the regulator harnesses this power and converts it to the up and down motion. A regulator is composed of gears and pivots that provide the smooth up and down motion of the window. Both power windows and manual windows make use of regulators. The regulator provides the up and down motion as well as slightly tilting the window, which ensures a tight fit in its frame.
