5 point harness seat belts are the fanciest and safest type of seatbelt available for your high performance vehicle or race car. However, they’re expensive and they require special mounting procedures. The question of whether or not to use them for some people lies in how they want to use their car. If you’re going to take your car down to the race track or drag strip (or both) occasionally, you may be required to have a 5 point harness seat belt installed. For example, NHRA Safety Regulation/Rules require you to have properly installed a 5 point harness if your car is capable of going faster than 11.99 seconds in the quarter mile. NASCAR also mandates a 5 point harness for cars entered in any sanctioned races.
