The quickest and easiest way to enhance the performance of your computer controlled engine is to install a performance ECU chip. This process is known as “chipping the computer” and makes changes to a number of performance-related variables such as spark temperature and duration, injector pulse width, fuel rail pressure and ignition timing. On turbo and supercharged engines, boost pressures can also be increased. Mild power can increase a chipping range from 30 to 50 horsepower, to more than 150 horses. There are also performance ECU chip upgrades that give the driver control. Some engine parameters can tune up the vehicle’s performance according to driver need and input.
