  • How Expensive Is an ECU Reflash?

You’ve gone through all the bolt-on parts that can be used to boost engine performance and now you think it’s time to consider an ECU reflash. In older engine computers, in order to change the programs that ran in the computer to manage the engine, you had to remove the chip and install a new one with the performance programming on it, or know how to write the program yourself and reprogram the chip on your own. The newer versions of ECUs allow you to change any number of parameters as the engine is running, as long as you have the right software and connector cabling. The software that you need to reflash is available as freeware or for as much as $300. The hardware (cabling and connectors) will run about $200.
