Getting your car radio iPod ready isn’t difficult. If your stereo isn’t already set up for an iPod, there are a few things you will need to purchase prior to listening to the iPod while driving. These accessories aren’t terribly expensive, and can be found at most Apple and electronic stores.
Docking Station
A docking station is a must in order to turn your radio into an iPod ready car stereo mp3 player. The docking station will allow you to plug the iPod in and listen to it using the controls on your radio. The docking stations will also charge the iPod as you listen to it, so you never have to worry about the battery running down.
GPS Car Kit
If you have an iPod touch or an iPhone, you can download several apps that will turn your iPod in to a full service GPS system. A car kit will make this much easier to use. The kit will allow you to dock the iPod so you can safely view it while driving. The spoken directions will be broadcast through your radio, so you don’t have to strain to hear or hold it to your ear.
Charging Adapter
If your car stereo is already iPhone ready, then you won’t need to worry about the cables. However, not all stereos have the ability to charge your iPhone or iPod while you are listening to it. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a separate charging adapter. These adapters will allow you to charge your iPod directly from your car, eliminating the hassle of a worn down battery.
