Car engine maintenance is vital to the upkeep of your car. Without it, your car will not last you very long. There are simple guidelines to follow with basic engine maintenance to stop your vehicle from breaking down on you. Sensible measures taken regularly will help you stay ahead of the game.

Check your tires and the vehicle exterior regularly. Tires can wear out very quickly if they have a slight fault or mishap. Air your tires regularly to make sure of good fuel economy and continued good condition. Test all of your car lights. Bulbs will blow and short circuits can happen, so run a weekly check on all your lights. This includes brake lights, reverse lights, head lamps and full beam lamps. If you car is equipped with a fog lamp, check that too. Carry spare bulbs just in case. The engine is the area which needs regular care and attention to avoid potential problems. Check your air filter, oil filter, fan belt, timing belt and battery regularly. An oil filter can get blocked and clogged and cause trouble to your engine. Your air filter can affect many components of your vehicle. If the timing belt frays, you could be in huge trouble with your cam shaft. If your fan belt breaks, you wont be able to go anywhere. Use sensible methods of checking your vehicle. Change your oil at least every six months and drain it completely. Always check your fluid levels and make sure they are topped up where needed. Low fluids can cause nasty issues. This also includes the water and the coolant as well as your windshield cleaner. Test your emergency brake and your CV joints in your vehicle. The CV joints are the ball joints which help to steer your car. When they become worn you will hear a knocking sound when you turn corners.
