Car Detailing Kit: A Buyer's Guide

|
A good car detailing kit should contain everything you need for detailing your vehicle. It’s much simpler to have everything in a single package. You don’t have to keep going back to the store, and you know the different items will work together. What do you need in a car detailing kit? Will you need to buy other car detailing supplies? What makes the best car detailing kit?
Clay
There are certain basic things every car detailing kit needs to have in order to do a complete detailing job. Start with clay and clay lubricant. This will allow you to get deep into the paint to remove ingrained dirt and resin. It’s the first step to take after washing the car, and completes the cleaning before you start to polish and build up the finish. Deep cleaning is important, as you’re going to do a thorough detailing on the car.
Polish
After you’ve finished using clay on the car, you’re ready to use polish to bring out the shine in the paintwork. Every car detailing kit needs to include polish. This is what gives real depth to the color and helps bring out the shine in the clear coat. While many people use a buffer for polishing, a car detail kit should also include a polishing cloth as well as microfiber cloths. Microfiber is important, as it won’t scratch the paint in the way that cotton so easily can.
Wax
The final step in car detailing is to wax or use sealant. Sealant is the name often used for chemical, rather than natural wax. You’ll generally find sealant and not wax in a car detail kit, as it works well with the other products. The kit should include an applicator for the sealant as well as a microfiber cloth to buff it off, and gives you the protection and seal that gives the final touch to your detailing job. A good sealant should last for several months before you have to renew it.
Shampoo
The best car detailing kits will also include compatible car shampoo. Many people make the mistake of just using detergent to wash their cars. You’ll achieve a much better result by using a shampoo that’s formulated for vehicles. It will do a better job of cleaning dirt off the car and preparing the vehicle for a clay treatment.
A proper wash with good quality shampoo will give you a head start on the detailing and will mean you have to use less effort later to make the vehicle look exactly the way you wish.
Best Detail Kits
There are many car detailing kits on the market. Some of them include products with unknown brand names. These might work well enough, but if you’re not familiar with the products, spend more money and get a name you can trust for the best car detailing kits. When you’re expending the time and energy to detail your vehicle, you want the backup of good products to ensure the car looks its very best when you finish.
