If you or someone else that regularly rides in your car requires a wheelchair or another handicap assist accessory to have full mobility, you may wish to consider wheelchair vehicles when you plan on buying a new car. Whether you buy from standard vehicles you then transform into handicapped vehicles by making modifications, or if you buy a pre-made example of wheelchair cars, you'll find these accessories and setups are beneficial for both the passenger in a wheelchair and everyone else who rides with that person at any time. Read on for a brief overview of the best minivans and vans to select when considering a wheelchair access conversion project. Most smaller vehicles are not appropriate because they do not have sufficient interior space.

Ford E-Series

The E-Series is the leading line of full size vans on the market today. These cars tend to be more expensive than other vehicles you might consider using for a wheelchair access conversion. Though, on the other hand they are fully loaded with luxury amenities and up to date accessories. The E-Series has several different trim types, meaning you can adjust your level of amenities and the subsequent price of the car according to your needs. Most importantly, however, all of these vans provide excellent interior space and are easily modified to be wheelchair accessible.

Dodge Grand Caravan

The Grand Caravan is one of the leading mini vans on the road today. It is a great choice for a smaller wheelchair or for conversion into a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Be sure to purchase the model with the sliding door on the side and not a standard style door, as these oftentimes do not have sufficient entry room for a wheelchair and lift system.

Dodge Ram

the Ram is not the most popular model of full size van at this point in time, but it's nonetheless a great choice for a wheelchair accessible vehicle. With removable seats and a huge interior space, this offers some of the best in terms of wheelchair accommodations. Best of all, the price of a Dodge Ram is relatively low in comparison with the E-Series, and older models of the vehicle will still work quite well, provided they have been taken care of properly.

Honda Odyssey

The Odyssey is Honda's minivan offering, and this car provides a great platform for a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Honda manufactures special custom designed versions of the Odyssey that come prepared with modified seating arrangements and wheelchair ramps or lifts. But these vehicles generally cost disproportionately more than the cost of purchasing a standard Odyssey and then modifying it. In either case, the Odyssey is fully of a wide array of comforts and amenities, and the vehicle itself is quite easy to modify if you should wish to install your own wheelchair lift.
