Finding the most expensive SUV on the market today may be the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. It starts at $126,300, but you can add well over $20,000 worth of options. The reason for this 6-figure price tag would have to be not only the SUV’s luxurious interior and its off-road capabilities, but also its shocking track performance. Under the hood is a 550hp twin-turbocharged 4.8L V8 engine, which hauls the heavy SUV from 0-60 in a blistering 4.7 seconds. Even though it’s an SUV, it’s still a Porsche.
There are also SUVs from BMW’s M division, the X5M and X6M which are about $90,000. The X5M goes from 0-60 in about 4.0 seconds.
However, the most expensive SUV in the world comes from the Mercedes-Benz tuning company Brabus. The Brabus GLK V-12 sports a 6.3L V12, which puts out a staggering 740hp and 990lb-ft. of torque (limited to 881). It does 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, but it’s top speed of 211mph makes it the fastest SUV in the world. A price tag of $588,000 makes it the most expensive.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are more affordable sport utility vehicles. There are many smaller, cheaper SUVs out on the market today that start at under $21,000. Most of them come well-equipped with the latest safety and convenience features. AOL Autos has good information on great values. The Kia Sportage starts at $17,000, and is a steal for the money. A little over $20K will get you a Nissan Rogue or a very popular American SUV, the Ford Escape. Both of these come with a 170hp 2.5L 4 cylinder engine, but a V6 is available on the Escape. The Subaru Forester is another option, and has won many awards. Great deals can be found on these small SUVs.
