When shopping for a car, finding a new auto lease can sometimes be the hardest part. Here are a few simple tips to take the hassle out of the process.

Shop Around

It's a good idea to find several dealers in your area that have the make and model car you are looking for. Let the dealers know that you are shopping around. This will force the dealerships to compete for your business. Some will and some won't, but you won't lose anything by trying. In fact, dealers may even decrease the monthly payments to win your business. You will save money in the long run if you take the time to shop around.

Don't Limit Yourself to Dealerships

While new car dealerships may seem like the most logical place to shop at for a new auto lease, there are also other options. If you have a relationship with a credit union, they will often be able to offer leases at a better rate. Many banks will also offer lease programs to their customers. If you live in a larger town, you can probably find a leasing agent or broker to help you as well.

Negotiate

Just because you're considering a lease instead of purchase, don't think you can't negotiate the terms. A lease contract will outline things such as normal wear on the vehicle, aftermarket customization clauses, mileage clauses as well as standard interest rate information. If, after reading the fine print you don't agree with any part of it, don't sign it until you are able to make it agreeable to you. If you can't come to a consensus then you can look for another dealer who will have a contract that works for you. Be sure you know what you're getting in to before signing anything.
