Benefits Of Buying A Cheap Used Car

Bookmark and Share

If you shop carefully and check the car out thoroughly before purchasing, you can enjoy the benefits of buying a cheap used car. But let's face it. People sell used cars because they don't drive and operate like they did when new so caution is always advised.

Cheap to Buy

The initial cost of buying a used car is much less than new and someone else will have taken the bite for the initial depreciation. Many car buyers believe paying $3000, $5000 or more for the luxury of having a new vehicle is too expensive a price to pay, especially when the bulk of that extra expenditure gets eaten up by depreciation when the new car is driven off the lot. Cheap used cars can be bought for $800 to $1,500 depending on the make and model.

Cheap to Insure

Insurance rates are more dependant on the driver than anything else. The car (Corvette, Porsche, etc.) that is sporty will be more. Typically any four-door car, non four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive car will be cheaper to insure than a coupe or an SUV. Keep in mind minivans are also cheaper to ensure than sedans.

Cheap to Maintain

One nice intrinsic benefit of driving a cheap, used car is you don't worry so much about door dings, dents, scratches and other cosmetic imperfections. While parts can be purchased at discount prices at auto stores and online, junkyards are also great for salvage parts like used engines, transmissions and suspension parts.

Just be sure you have any car you plan on buying used checked out adequately by an experienced mechanic. A "CARFAX" vehicle history report will also give you facts about a used car before you buy.
