2013 Jeep Compass
“The 2011 Compass is now available with Freedom Drive II, the second and more-capable generation of the Compass' all-wheel-drive system... The result is a surprisingly capable Compass. On a test drive outside Jackson, Wyoming, the Compass was able to keep up with the rest of the Jeep lineup on moderately difficult snow-covered trails that saw steep descents, rocky riverbeds, and muddy hill climbs, even if it had to make a few runs at some obstacles.” — Motor Trend   See More Reviews

2013 Jeep Patriot
“Off-road is where the Patriot separates itself from the rest of the compact-crossover set. Its capability was a pleasant surprise...It still isn't as good off-road as the Liberty or Wrangler, but it does justify the company's Trail Rated designation. ” — Motor Trend   See More Reviews

2013 Jeep Wrangler
“All the knobs and buttons and switches are big enough and rough enough to take abuse, and for some reason the signal light stalk that I hated for being so hard to push in the Sebring works in the Jeep. I really like the air vents in the Jeep as well. These ones should be used across the Chrysler line-up: they twist and turn and open and close so easily and air can be directed quickly in any direction you wish - perfect.” — Canadian Driver   See More Reviews

2013 Mazda CX-5

2013 Toyota RAV4 EV
“The big news for the RAV4 EV is: there's not much to say. While most EVs drive like underpowered vehicles with strangely little off-the-line thrust, plenty of motor whine, grabby regenerative braking and peculiar throttle mapping, the RAV4 EV just drives like a fairly powerful mid-market CUV.” — The Truth About Cars   See More Reviews

How are models ranked?

Autos.com editors have compiled the most extensive rating database on the internet, drawing upon $20 million of automotive research from CarsDirect and Autodata, and summarizing expert opinion from an extensive group of the leading third party sources. Here is a brief overview of how we do it:

Professional Reviews Ranking: Autos.com editors analyze car reviews from a range of magazines and websites, distill each down to a quantifiable ranking and then average those rankings to arrive at the Professional Review Rank.

Other Rankings: Autos.com also ranks vehicles based on criteria such as fuel efficiency, cargo capacity, and comfort and convenience features. You can see some of the data that we have used to rate each vehicle in any given category by expanding the category header on the vehicle detail page. For example, click on the arrow next to "Passenger Space" on the Honda Civic detail page to see the actual measurements for that vehicle's interior. These measurements were stacked up against the interior measurements of all the other vehicles in the compact car segment in order to calculate the Honda Civic's rating in the Passenger Space category. That rating is then used to determine the Honda Civic's overall ranking in the compact car category.
