Because you can’t predict what will happen on any given day, auto insurance is available to cover the effects of an accident or other unpleasant automotive event. Auto insurance coverage offers many different types of coverage, which can be purchased to protect you when these types of events occur.

You can purchase bodily injury liability coverage (BI) and property damage liability coverage (PD), as well as comprehensive coverage (COMP) and collision coverage (COLL). Lastly, consider purchasing uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage and underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage.

Bodily Injury Coverage (BI)

This type of policy covers bodily injury of the person(s) engaged in an accident with you, for which you were at fault. However, this coverage does not cover you.

Property Damage Liability (PD)

This covers damage you cause to other peoples’ properties, e.g. car, fence, house, etc.

Comprehensive Coverage (COMP)

This covers damages inflicted on your car, as a result of incidents, apart from collisions, like if your car is stolen or damaged by flood, fire or animals.

Collision Coverage (COLL)

This covers damage inflicted on your car from a collision, i.e. when your car hits or is hit by another car.

Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury (UM)

This covers you, your household and passengers’ body injuries, damages or death caused by an at-fault uninsured or hit and run driver.

Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury (UNDUM)

This covers you, your household and car passengers’ body injuries, damages or death caused by a driver with insufficient insurance, i.e. if the driver’s coverage cannot meet your damages, your policy will meet the difference.

It’s vital to make sure you, your family and passengers and property are protected whether out on the road or parked at home. Talk with your auto insurance agent to put together the right coverage plan for you.
