Which is More Likely to Overheat: Supercharger or Turbo?

Bookmark and Share

You’re trying to choose between a supercharger or a turbo. You have enough space to mount either type of intake air compressor system. Heat and overheating are your primary concern in making your decision between turbo and supercharging your engine. A supercharger’s compressor system only contacts incoming air and a set of bearings while the engine is running. However, a turbocharger is driven by exhaust pressure flowing across an impeller. If the bearing lubricant is not cooled properly, these bearings on the impeller can overheat and fail. This is much less likely to happen with a supercharger.
