What Grade of Fuel Does a Supercharger Require?

Bookmark and Share

For absolute optimal performance, you should run a specific grade of fuel when you have a supercharger. At a minimum, you should run the mid-grade fuel available at most gas stations. This grade of fuel is usually between 89 and 91 Octane. If this grade isn’t available, you can get away with 87 or 88 Octane fuel for one tank full. The highest grade fuel, usually between 91 and 93 Octane, will provide maximum knock and ping resistance, and deliver the best performance from your supercharged engine. Just as important as the grade of fuel used, is keeping the injectors clean. You should use an injector cleaner every 8,000 to 12,000 miles.
