Driving a 997 Porsche Carrera is a special and unique experience, and installing a modified Porsche 997 exhaust in place of the factory one is a good way to enhance not only the performance and fuel mileage of a car, but also enhance the driving experience.

A good exhaust can give the car a more visceral sound and feel, but there are many ways to go about changing the exhaust on a Porsche 997.

One of the most common ways to change the exhaust on a Porsche 911 is to install a catback exhaust system. A catback consists of an aftermarket muffler or pair of mufflers that is attached to a pipe that runs to the catalytic converter. Horsepower gains from this kind of exhaust are generally pretty minimal, as Porsche tries to make the most efficient exhaust as they can from the factory.

Headers are another, more expensive route that many Porsche owners look into. Headers are pipes that collect exhaust gasses as they exit the cylinders and run them into the rest of the exhaust system. Porsche headers can provide more significant power gains than simply installing a catback.
