Installing an HKS SSQV Blow Off Valve

Bookmark and Share

A high performance HKS SSSQ blow off valve (BOV) can help improve performance in your turbocharged car and also give your car that cool 'whoosh' blow off valve sound when changing gears and giving the car gas. Replacing the stock diverter or recirculating valve in your turbo car is not that difficult and you can do the work in under an hour. In order to make the job even easier, here is an easy to follow guide on how to install an HKS SSSQ blow off valve in your turbocharged car.

What You Will Need

  • New HKS SSQV blow off valve
  • Socket Set
  • Screwdriver set
  • Pliers
  • New vacuum line (if not included in the Blow off valve kit)

Step 1 - Purchase a HKS SSSQ Blow Off Valve

Major auto part retailers probably won't carry the HKS SSSQ blow off valve. So, you'll probably have to find a specialty parts shop or purchase one online. Just make sure you have the make, model and engine size of your vehicle available when ordering. This will help you ensure you purchase the correct installation kit for your vehicle.

Step 2 - Get Ready to Work

Once you have the new blow off valve, find a cool place to work and remove the car's negative battery cable. You should do this whenever you work on your car's engine to avoid shock or injury.

Step 3 - Loosen the Clamp on the Recirculating Hose

Use your pliers or screwdriver to loosen the clamp that holds the recirculating hose in place on the diverter valve or recirculating valve. Once the clamp has been loosened, simply remove the hose from the valve.

Step 4 - Remove Old Diverter or Recirculating Valve

Take the appropriate sized ratchet socket or wrench and remove the bolts that hold the diverter valve or recirculating valve in place. You also need to remove the vacuum line from the valve as well. You can discard the old valve, as you'll be replacing it with a new HKS SSSQ blow off valve.

Step 5 - Install New HKS SSSQ Blow Off Valve

Next, align the new HKS SSSQ blow off valve with the mounting holes that were used for the old diverter valve or recirculating valve. Then, reinsert the bolts you removed earlier and tighten them securely. Finally, reconnect the vacuum line to the new HKS SSSQ BOV. If the vacuum line is too short, you'll need to use the coupler and vacuum line extension that come with the installation kit. Make sure the vacuum line is attached securely at the tip of the valve.

Step 6 - Connect Recirculating Hose to New Blow Off Valve

Reattach the recirculating hose to the new HKS SSSQ blow off valve. Then use the pliers or screwdriver to tighten the clamp securely.

Step 7 - Replace Negative Battery Cable

Replace the battery cable on the negative terminal post. Secure tightly with a wrench or socket.

Step 8 - Try Out the New Blow Off Valve

Now it's time to test the installation of the new HKS SSSQ blow off valve. Take the vehicle out on the highway and give the vehicle a lot of gas in between gear changes. You should now notice the blow off valve sound (whoosh) and also an appreciable increase in power and response. Additionally, you may want to perform a pressure leak test of the turbocharger to make sure the BOV has been properly installed.
